GreenLatinos Elated Over New Immigration Actions, Acknowledges Millions Left in the Shadows

Today’s announcement is a substantial step toward creating a more humane immigration system for our communities but understands millions are left without relief.

WASHINGTON — Today, President Joe Biden announced new Executive Actions ensuring that U.S. citizens with noncitizen spouses and children apply for lawful permanent residence without leaving the country. Additionally, these actions will ease the visa process for U.S. college graduates, including DACA recipients. Understanding the interconnectedness of immigration and the climate crisis, mainly as these two issues directly affect the health and well-being of the Latino/a/e comunidad in the United States, GreenLatinos is relieved there is a new path to help keep our families and communities together.

In response to the immigration actions from the Biden Administration, GreenLatinos Chief of Staff Mariana Del Valle Prieto Cervantes released the following statement:

“Today’s new executive actions from the Biden Administration are a welcome measure of relief for approximately 500,000 people in the United States. Those who leave their homelands and are displaced from a climate-ravaged environment, fleeing violence and poverty, must be welcomed and allowed to contribute to the social fabric of this country. GreenLatinos supports any measure that will enable families to stay together and achieve legal status in this country. We also know that millions of our community members are left out of this new executive order. We will continue to advocate for immigration solutions, to our deeply broken immigration system, that will address the inequities in this country. ”
