House Majority Interior Appropriations Put People and Planet at Risk

Department of Interior Budget Markups Are Show of Political Theatre

WASHINGTON — Yesterday, the House Majority at the Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior, Environment and Related Agencies demonstrated a continued allegiance to political theater during markups of the Fiscal Year 25 bill that funds public lands and environmental agencies. Rather

The House Subcommittee Majority is advancing a short-sighted appropriations bill riddled with over 80 poison pill policy riders and budget cuts that compromise the well-being of working families and our precious and endangered natural resources in service of polluters and climate science deniers.

Rather than prioritizing the health of their constituents and ecological integrity of the entire nation, the Majority’s unrealistic proposal is driving the country en route to another political impasse and another potential government shutdown crisis.

A responsible appropriations bill would accelerate the nation’s critical needs to administer public lands and waters for conservation, recreation and restoration, deadly heat and storms, and devastating pollution.
